Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies -- so tasty!

These remind me of Nag Champa when they are in the oven baking. They also remind me of Djarums. Such a lovely smell - and without the carcinogens!

Spicy Oatmeal Raisin Cookies - copied from here

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup butter, softened (I use 1/2 c. or veg. shortening instead)
1/2 cup butter flavored shortening (I use 1/2 c. or veg. shortening instead)
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar (I omit the white sugar)
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup raisins

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).

In a large bowl, cream together the butter, butter flavored shortening, brown sugar, white sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; stir into the sugar mixture. Stir in the oats and raisins. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheets.

Bake 10 to 12 minutes until light and golden. Do not overbake. Let them cool for 2 minutes before removing from cookie sheets to cool completely. Store in airtight container.

Tasty: Lebanese Walnut Cookies

Copied from here: http://www.recipezaar.com/83833

Lebanese Walnut Cookies

These are so good! Little nut filled bites, with a hint of cinnamon. Translated from "Cocina Libanesa," by Anne Wilson. -canarygirl

makes: 25-30 cookies, cook time: 30 min, prep: 10 min

Cookies:
1/2 lb or 1 cup butter
1/2 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons orange blossom water (sub. 2 tsp vanilla instead)
2 cups flour

Filling:
1/2 cup of chopped walnuts
1/4 cup powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

Line cookie sheets with parchment paper, and heat oven to 375°F.

Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl. Add orange water (sub. 2 tsp vanilla instead) and sifted flour, and stir until the mixture forms a thick dough. Set aside.

To prepare the filling, combine the nuts, sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Form 1 inch balls with the dough, and press the center to form a dent for the filling. Fill each cookie with about a teaspoon of the filling, and place the cookies on the parchment.

Bake 15-20 minutes or until golden.

Cool on wire racks.

Sneaking in here: The Detox Diet

Perhaps this will help to re-energize me.

http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/dietarytherapy/a/Detox_Diet_Plan.htm

AND I'm going to a Buddhist meditation this Sunday and looking forward to it.

Last night was my first yoga class in about a year. Prior to this, it had been a few months since I've really last practiced. I'm making it a weekly goal to get out to Yoga class.

Having some no-screen time

I'll only be online Saturdays and Thursdays from now one. Concentrating on other areas of my life. With my limited free time I'm going to have to cut a few things out to include more art and yoga. Cheers!

Inspiration: (my) future tattoo design

This photo belongs to velcrotrainer on Flickr. I love the tattoo -- maybe I will get mine in this style. I like the symetry and the simplicy. I'm not sure what image I will use though. I LOVE the placement. Yes, I like this part of my back!! Now if only Dameon Rowanchilde lived in Vancouver because I want him to tattoo me.

bliss: Snatam Kaur

My kundalini yoga journey brought me to the music of Snatam Kaur the maker of beautiful music that vibrates my soul. If I was still in Toronto I would attend the Gurbani Kirtan and also take my kids to the The Children's Peace Hour where she is singing. A free mp3 download of "Gobinda Gobinda Hari Hari" by Snatam Kaur is here. Light a candle, close your eyes, and focus on your third eye. ((((Sat Nam))))
